What really (I mean REALLY) gets you fired up every day? Is it that little victory with your staff where they finally “got it”? Is it closing that deal or delivering on time to one of your most difficult customers? For all of us, we have those “fist pumping” moments where our best shines and the hard work, gifts and talents all come together. Doesn’t it feel good? You live for these moments, and it’s easy to leave our thumbs in our lapel for too long. As effective leaders it’s critical for us to stay grounded in the midst of the “fist pumping.” Humility is in the heart of a great leader. The English word “humble”, comes from the Latin word “humus” which means “of the ground or earth.” The humble leader celebrates victories with and for her team, not in spite of them. For the leader, the victory is about the success of the team and to build them up for the next battle.
