I was working recently with a client and several leaders expressed frustration over their team not accomplishing the things the team they had been mobilized to do.
I looked at one of them and said, “You’re not a leader.” His mouth dropped open and the video below is what I told him.
So many people are only managing and not leading. Think about your world right now. Where and with whom do you want people to willingly follow you? Are they? Or do they only come along out of a sense of duty because of the position you hold as their boss?
I invite you to take on the fieldwork of noticing whether or not people are following. Then, inquire why they are following.
